Two little Green Birds
The nursery rhyme, about two little black birds sitting on the wall is one I think is as old as time.Just like a folklore that we don't know who first told it,most of us who sang that rhyme blissfully as kids don't know who first told the story of the black birds.
But,my two little green birds are not the usual Peter and Paul, flying away and coming back separately. They are,as I will like to call them- Two doting green birds.
I can't really put my finger on why I am choosing this to be the first post I make here, maybe it's because I still smile and get chills when I look retrospectively and see those two birds in my mind's eye or maybe it has become one of my favourite stories, one my children will probably hear when it's time to give that parents-children talk about compassion and all.
So on that faithful day,I was coming back from class (if you're a student,in a Nigerian institution, you deserve some accolades!) tired, hungry, starving, famished (all these to tell you how badly I wanted food at the very moment) then,Boom! I caught a sight, one that made me forget the state of emergency being declared in my stomach. These two birds, one appeared to be limping and shivering,it looked very much under the weather because it was a rainy day and the other, seemed alright no shivers or quivers.I stopped immediately I saw them because I did not want to startle them,so I just stood from a distance and observed. The one without shivers, which we will call Odion(a name for the elder twin in Bini)was picking rice grains from the floor and feeding the shivering one that we will call Ovbohkhan(a name for the younger twin in Bini). It didn't just pick the grain and maybe dropped them on the floor for Ovbohkan to do it itself,Odion fed Ovbohkan in its mouth
The rice grains on the floor seemed to be insufficient then Odion continued to look for greener pastures, while Ovbohkan followed closely, limping tiredly and probably thankful to the stars for the big heart of it's little fellow Odion.
Sadly, the show didn't go on for long as both flew away when I went to call my friends to behold the sight.Observing these two birds keenly,I learnt in few minutes, a life long lesson about kindness and compassion. And the rest of my day was as bright as the Sun!☺
So if those two birds could be that warm and kind, what stops us from doing same?
Owww! I included a picture by the way,so you can get the perfect image ;-)
